March 11th 2010 witnessed the Irish Food Board (Bord Bia) and Tourism Ireland host the ‘Discover Ireland’s Beverages’ Media Event at Jia Hotel Shanghai. The event was attended by 50 journalists from leading life-style publications and industry media as they celebrated the excellence of Irish beverage brands.
Breiffini Kennedy, Asia Manager of Bord Bia noted that the Irish drinks industry is world famous for its beers, spirits and liqueurs. Ireland, known as ‘The Food Island’, is a source of natural, fresh ingredients. Irish drinks are recognised worldwide for their quality and taste. On St Patrick’s Day and every other day of the year, consumers from Cork to Shanghai and from Dublin to Beijing will enjoy the quality and taste of Irish beverages with family and friends.
Liwei from Tourism Ireland China said that the island of Ireland (including the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom) has a population of 5.5 million receieving over 9 million tourists every year. Ireland is famous for the natural scenic spots and rich in tourism resources.
During the reception, some journalists had the luck to try making Irish coffee by themselves. The winners who made the most 'Irish' coffee were awarded with a unique Irish souvenior.
Irish company representatives invited at the event included Jameson, Baileys, Guinness & Murphy's.
