April 15, 2010 was the Zhejiang Chef Contest on American Food Ingredients in Hangzhou. This event, attended by SMH International, was held to promote Alaskan seafood to local Chinese suppliers and consumers.
SMH International’s representative reported over 20 chefs attended, representing 20 of Zhejiang’s top hotels and restaurants. In order to promote the quality and versatility of Alaska’s seafood, these chefs competed to create the most innovative and delicious dish. One of the guest judges was ATO’s director, Wayne Batwie. The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) displayed Pacific Cod, King Crab and Snow Crab for onlookers to salivate over while the chefs were hard at work. SMH presented a detailed introduction of the various types and classifications of the Alaskan Seafood. During the exhibition, SMH met with existing suppliers as well as potential suppliers who showed a serious interest in the Alaska Seafood products. With the exchanging of business cards, several trade leads were generated. The networking continued even after the event had ended.
A seafood buffet dinner was held at the Zhejiang Grand Hotel following the chef’s competition. A representative from SMH International journeyed to the hotel to photograph the various aspects of the event including table tents, hanging banners and paper sheets. SMH supervised the entire process and helped to facilitate a discussion with Chef Zhang regarding possible trade opportunities.
